What do cooler weather, decorations, and excited children have in common? They are all a part of the month of October! October is a great time of year in the classroom. Both teachers and students are used to the routines of the school day, and things are running a little more smoothly than they were in August and September. The weather gets a little cooler, and we decorate our house (and maybe our classrooms too!) for fall and Halloween. To celebrate learning during the fall, we love our October-themed kindergarten math and literacy centers.
The children are excitedly bouncing off the walls with the first mention of candy, costumes, and October 31st. But while October is full of fun, there is also a lot of learning that must be done! We dive into pumpkins with our stacks of books all about pumpkins and “fill” our wheelbarrows with pumpkin CVC words and editable pumpkin sight words.
We can’t even think about this time of year without exploring Halloween themes. These October science experiments are spooktacular and entertaining. Our kindergarteners love rhyming with bats and working on numbers, letters, and their fine motor skills with these bats. We add in Halloween STEM activities throughout the month to get us excited and engaged.
I like to start off each school day of the month by giving my students a page to work on from our October Daily Literacy Review Journal, the perfect morning work! And on the same note, I use our October Daily Math Review Journal pages as a transition into our math block or as a way to end math. They are the perfect little grab-and-go activities!
At this point in the year, we can better understand our students’ individual needs so we can meet them where they’re at. This means I am always looking to differentiate my materials and find the best ways to make learning fun and attainable for my students. This is why I use these Kindergarten October Math and Literacy Centers. This bundle is full of my favorite October kindergarten activities and will help you make the month even more exciting for your students!

Using the October Math and Literacy Centers for Kindergarten
Once you purchase and download the October math and literacy centers for kindergarten, you’ll be ready to get started! The center bundle is separated into neat and tidy digital folders for each subject and center category. You can look through each center and either print or make a list of what needs to be printed, copied, laminated, and cut. It may seem like a lot of prep at first, but printing on cardstock and/or laminating as much as possible will help make many parts of these centers reusable for every October to come.
You can even choose to use these center activities as whole or small group work, or a mix of both! The options are endless when you have 40 October-themed math and literacy centers to choose from. You can introduce all the centers at the start of the month or a few each week, it’s up to you! Make sure to model the center activities and clearly state what the expectations are for each type of center to your students. This will help your kindergarteners be more independent and allow you to work with groups or individual students while your class is engaged in the centers.

Kindergarten October Math Centers
So you’re following your school’s curriculum and all the best practices on how to teach math to kindergarteners in October, but how do you make those lessons stick? One word…centers! These 20 October and fall-themed math activities will help your students review and practice their math skills.

Write the Room Centers
If you don’t use write the room activities in your classroom, now is the time to change! Write the room centers allow students to move around the classroom and answer questions or solve problems. Sometimes, the change in scenery is exactly what your learners need to make a concept “stick.” The October write the room math centers cover these skills: 2D shapes, counting and writing numbers to 12, counting on, and ten frames.

Write & Wipe Centers
I always tell anyone who will listen that write and wipe activities are a must in the classroom! Made reusable by laminating or putting in a page protector, write and wipe centers help kids practice math and literacy skills by giving them a chance to complete a task over and over again. The four math write and wipe activities for October will help your students review making and recognizing equal groups, putting numbers in order, measuring height, counting, and comparing numbers.

Puzzles and Match-Ups
The two math match-ups and two math puzzles that come in this bundle will make your October math centers more exciting. The puzzles will allow your students to practice matching numerals to number words and counting and matching numbers to make equal pairs. The two match-ups review sorting and counting on.

Dice Games
If you’re looking for fun and interactive October math centers for your young learners, these dice games are perfect! Dice games are so easy to incorporate because all you need to make them successful are some dice. (I highly recommend foam dice to keep the noise level down.) The dice games for October include a roll and graph activity, a roll a monster page, a color by color word worksheet, and a roll and cover/color that reviews subitizing. Your students will love learning with these activities, and you’ll love how easy they are to prep!

Partner Games
It’s so important to give our students the chance to work and play with their classmates. These partner games give them the opportunity to review math skills while playing with friends. You’ll have a race to the top game, a subitizing board game, a number match card game, and a spinner game that helps students practice identifying whether objects are light or heavy. These math games for October are a must-have for your math centers!

October Literacy Activities for Kindergarten

Poetry Centers
The four poetry centers that come inside this bundle will give you kindergarten October reading activities that you’ll love! The three original poems are about Halloween, haunted houses, and the month of October. You’ll also get one nursery rhyme poem that may be familiar to some of your students. The poetry centers come with pocket chart materials, poetry journals, and notebooks that are full of October reading tasks for kindergarten.

Write the Room Activities
The four literacy write the room activities cover skills like sight words, rhyming words, beginning sounds, and alliteration. The write the room activities can be used as intended or can be put in a center to be used as task cards. These October literacy tasks will help your students get up and moving while reviewing crucial literacy skills!

Write & Wipe and Puzzles
The October literacy centers have two write and wipe activities and two puzzles.
