Pencil Names – Name Building Practice Printable comes with eight editable pages, containing two pencils. Each pencil has pieces for two letter names up to nine letter names.

Getting Pencil Names – Name Building Practice Printable Ready

To edit this resource, you will need to download the KG font used (KG Red Hands). Next, you will open the document with Adobe Acrobat. You will first type out the name of your student (or child) in the highlighted space on the tip of the pencil. Then you will type out their name on the pencil that matches how many letters they have. Each section will get one letter.

Using Pencil Names – Name Building Practice Printable

Each student will have their own set of Pencil Names. You can easily store these in a ziploc baggie so that students can better keep track of all the pieces.

Students will first look at their name on the tip of the pencil. This will be the perfect guide for helping little learners practice building their name.

Students will then find the first letter of their name and then, one at a time, and build their name.

I cut the eraser and tip of the pencil off so that my students could fully complete the puzzle.

You can easily leave those pieces attached if your students are younger, like we did for Bob.

If your students are older , you can leave the tip of the pencil blank and students can build their name on their own without any guidance. You could also leave everything blank and have students write the letters on the pencil, where they can then build their Pencil Names.

Love this, but was wondering if you have a file for longer names? I have a Christopher and I would love to have him learn his complete name and not just the shortened version.

Bless you and thank you for sharing your resources.

Hello! I would check your spam folder and see if it is in there. If not, are you using a school email address? Those get reported as spam quite frequently.

    This is so cute.
I wanted to use it for my class, but I am having an issue with the pencil that has 8 letters. One of the letters is a different size.
Then I was trying to type the second letter, then it puts it down on the second pencil. Then I tried to type the second and it messed up the first one.
    please advise. Thank you.

I’m sorry you’re having trouble with it…sometimes technology just doesn’t behave. Try redownloading the pencil doc…sometimes it helps to start over.

I have had the same issue. When you try to type an 8 letter name in the top pencil, the second letter also goes into the second spot on the bottom pencil. if you try to put the name in the bottom pencil, the opposite happens. I tried putting a second name in the other pencil, but it still changes the second letter. I think it is a glitch with the editing feature in Adobe. The other pencils work fine.
