We have a fondness for everything pumpkin this time of year!
We bring in real pumpkins for our youngest learners so they can see the different sizes and shapes. Visiting the pumpkin patch is one of our favorite fall activities.
We love reading the stacks and stacks of pumpkin books in our library and have tons of math fun with our pumpkin addition mats. And our students enjoy coming up with their own ideas for DIY pumpkin matching puzzles.
Our days are filled thinking of pumpkins because we sing Five Little Pumpkins so many times I can’t get it out of my head driving home.
I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Because pumpkins are a great way to get kids learning without realizing they are learning.
To connect pumpkins with sight words, I’ve created this Pumpkin Editable Sight Word Activity so our kids can review their sight words in a fun hands-on way!

It works well for literacy stations, independent work, or in small review groups.

Along with the editable sight word activity, there are 5 editable worksheets that students can complete to assess their understanding of the material. There are black and white options available to save your color ink.
Getting the Pumpkin Editable Sight Word Activity Ready
This editable printable is easy to prep. After you purchase the activity and download it, you’ll need to open the document with the most updated version of Adobe. Then type in the sight words your class is currently working on.
As the year progresses and your students learn more words, or to differentiate for your students, you can add words and personalize it for your students’ needs.
I have found it works best to print these out on cardstock and laminate them before you cut them so it can easily be used year after year. Here are my tips for keeping my Language Arts materials organized throughout the year.
Using the Pumpkin Editable Sight Word Activity
Students will start their sight word game by placing all of the pieces on the floor or table. It may help students to work in small groups the first time they try to complete the pumpkin sight words activity.
They will then choose a sight word wheelbarrow from the pile. This student chose the word “the“.
Next, your students will search through the pumpkin pile looking for the letters to spell out the same word on the wheelbarrow.
Once they’ve spelled out the word, they can choose a new wheelbarrow and continue word building until all the words are done or their time is up.
If you have younger students or students who need extra review or practice, you can simplify the activity.
Provide those students with only a few sight words or the sight words they haven’t yet learned. Once they master those words, you can slowly add in more.
Whether students are playing the sight word game or showing off their mastery of words with their pumpkin themed worksheets, they will have fun and a sense of accomplishment.
