Are you looking for a simple craft to do during your Thanksgiving feast or doing a unit study all about turkeys? This feathered turkey craft is not only fun but is also easy for young children to put together.

Materials Needed For The Paper Bag Turkey Puppet Craft:

  • Paper Bag
  • Orange Construction Paper
  • Red Construction Paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Googly Eyes
  • Feathers

One of my favorite things about this turkey craft is that it is inexpensive to make. If you don’t already have the supplies in your classroom, you can find everything you need at the dollar store.

Doing The Paper Bag Turkey Puppet Craft:

To begin making this turkey craft, your students will cut a triangle out of the orange paper. They will then cut an oval out of the red paper. For children who haven’t developed their fine motor skills yet, you can cut the shapes out or give them with hand over hand support while cutting.

Next, your students will glue the orange triangle and red oval onto the paper bag of the turkey’s beak and gobbler.

Then, they will glue the googly eyes above the beak. If you don’t have googly eyes, your students can cut circles out of white and black paper and create their own eyes.

After the glue dries, your students will turn the paper bag over and glue on feathers to the back of the bag. Instead of using feathers, they can also cut long, thin ovals out of colored construction paper to make their own.

Finally, your students can use their turkey to act out stories about turkeys or make up their own show.
