Summer is in full gear here in Texas and what better way to celebrate than with a Summer Syllable Sort. This product is something that you can easily do at home over the summer for a refresher activity or place in a center for classroom use. Teachers and parents have enough on their plate so low prep is sometimes the right answer and this resource requires you to do very little. Simply print and laminate for extra durability. Cut out a few cards and then you are ready to go! Are you looking for more summer ideas, activities, and printables to do at home or in the classroom? If so click here.

A pocket chart with picture cards sorted under the headers: one syllable, two syllables, and three syllables.

Summer Syllable Sort comes with three pages of summer themed picture cards that students will sort based on the number of syllables in each word. For this particular activity students will sort two, three, and four syllable words. It can easily complete this activity with a pocket chart, on the floor, or at the table, depending on what works best with your classroom setup and supplies. I completed the activity using a pocket chart.

After they complete the activity, there is a worksheet for students to complete independently. It can be very easy for struggling students to fall through the cracks during center time. You are typically working with a small group of students at the teacher table and the rest of the class is participating in rotations. Typically these rotations are independent, in pairs, or in small groups. I personally like having a few of my centers involve 2-4 people because it allows students to learn from one another. With most every center I have in my classroom, I try and have a worksheet or quick assessment that will  require the students to apply what they have been working on. This allows me to see if they truly understand the concept they have been working on and whether or not we need to revisit it.

Please send me an email if there is a product that you are in needing for your classroom. I would be happy to make it.

Hi there David! I’m sorry technology can cause issues sometimes. After submitting your information you will receive an email from me with the download. Sometimes school website emails block emails from us so you may need to use a private email to receive the printable. Be sure to check all of your folders (spam, updates, promotions, etc). Hope you enjoy it!
