To get you started, this great kit includes all of the items below. This is ideal for helping you get your classroom excited about spring and summer and is an ideal activity to keep them busy and having fun during centers, small groups, or those free time hours.
Ice Cream Initial Sound Match-Up
Both sets mentioned above come with self checking colored ice cream scoops or a variety of colors (like below) for students needing a challenge.
Materials Needed for Ice Cream Initial Sound and Number Match-Ups
Getting Ice Cream Initial Sound and Number Match-Ups Ready
Print the match-ups (Color or Black & White), laminate and cut. Gather all of the pieces and place in a plastic container. I love using plastic shoe boxes to store centers like these. It keeps everything in one place and does not take up a ton of space.
This obviously doesn’t take a ton of time to put together and makes a wonderful activity to help your kids have fun and learn at the same time.
Doing Ice Cream Initial Sound and Number Match-Ups
Students will start the activity by choosing an ice cream cone with either a number or letter. My daughter was doing the initial sound match-up and choose the cone with the letter Pp.
Students will then sort through all of the ice cream scoops with pictures looking for the ones that start with the letter Pp.
Each ice cream cone has six scoops of ice cream. Once the cone has has six scoops representing the corresponding letter (or number), they can move on to a new letter (or number) and start again.
Another way this could be completed, is to have all of the ice cream cones laid out on a table or even the floor. Students will then sort through all of the scoops and place each one at the correct cone.
If you have younger (or struggling) students that would be overwhelmed by the number of puzzle pieces in this activity, scale it back. Provide them with only a few of the numbers or letters. Once they master those, you can slowly add in more.

The children will love these but I have a question. Are the background colors the same for each number or each sound? In other words, will the children use the background color to sort rather than the numbers shown?
This product only has one color. Other match-ups have varying colors. You can find the entire set of Match-Ups here: https://www.adabofgluewilldo.com/product/match-ups-mega-bundle/
I downloaded the snowmen number match up around Christmas time, which I love, but for the way we teach showing numbers here it would make more sense to have one left hand and one right hand.
Only a small niggle though!
