Classrooms are filled with EVERYTHING pumpkins this time of year!
Our youngest learners love talking about all the fun things we can do with pumpkins: decorating them, making pumpkin goodies and roasting pumpkin seeds. Pumpkins come in so many different shapes and sizes kids can’t help but be fascinated with them.
Students are over the top excited when we build our science lesson around exploring pumpkins. We have fun with our easy DIY pumpkin matching puzzle, and we are always eager to decorate our classrooms with our paper pumpkin crafts.
Pumpkins are a great way to get kids learning without realizing they are learning.
Our little learners take so much pride when they master spelling their name. To bring pumpkins together with this skill, I’ve created this Pumpkin Editable Name Activity so our kids can practice building their name in a fun hands-on way!

Pumpkin Editable Name Activity
This is such a fun and exciting way for students to learn about the letters in their names.
This resource is perfect for helping our little ones master building their name. Engage students in learning with this hands-on EDITABLE name game. This pumpkin-themed editable name printable is perfect for Preschool and Kindergarten classrooms during fall.
It works well for literacy stations, independent work, or in small review groups.
Inside You’ll Find:
- Editable wheelbarrows and pumpkins (color and black and white)
- 5 themed editable name worksheets
Along with the editable name game, there are 5 editable worksheets that students can complete to assess their understanding of the material. There are black and white options available to save your color ink.
Getting the Pumpkin Editable Name Activity Ready
This editable printable is easy to prep. After you purchase the activity and download it, you’ll need to open the document with the most updated version of Adobe.
You will first type out the name of your student (or child) in the highlighted space on the wheelbarrow. Then you will spell out that name on the pumpkins, with one letter per pumpkin.
I have found it works best to print these out on cardstock and laminate them before you cut them so it can easily be used over and over again.
Using the Pumpkin Editable Name Activity
Students will have their own wheelbarrow and pumpkins with their name. You can store their pieces in Ziploc baggies so they can keep better track of them.
Students will first look at their name on the wheelbarrow. This will be the perfect guide for helping little learners recognize their name and associate it with it in print.
To start the name game they can place all of their pieces on the floor or table. They will then start filling up their wheelbarrow with pumpkins from the pile until their name is built. This student’s name is “Jack”.
To differentiate for older students, you can leave the wheelbarrow blank and students can build their name on their own. You can also leave everything blank and have students write the letters on the pumpkins, where they can then fill up their wheelbarrows without any guidance at all.
Whether students are playing the name game or showing off mastering their name with their pumpkin themed worksheets, they will have fun and a sense of accomplishment.
