Over the years, Fall has become my favorite season. I love the cooler temperatures, all of the pumpkin spiced goodies, and the beginning of the football season. We love to celebrate the beginning of the season by making Fall crafts like this Block Painted Football Craft. This process art activity is fun and easy for young children to create.

Materials Needed For The Block Painted Football Craft:

  • Brown and White Card Stock
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Brown Paint
  • Blocks
  • Paint Bowl
  • Glue

We love to celebrate the beginning of the season by making Fall crafts like this Block Painted Football Craft. This process art activity is fun and easy for young children to create.

This simple Fall process art activity requires very little preparation.

Simply spread the brown paint onto a small paper plate or paint tray and lay out the rest of the materials for your students.

This activity is perfect to do at home or in classroom because it is inexpensive and most of the supplies are readily available.

Doing The Block Painted Football Craft:

Before beginning this painting activity, read books about football such as Family Huddle by The Manning Family. Then, show children a football and talk to them about what and how it is made.

To begin making this football craft, draw and cut an oval out of a white or light brown piece of card stock or construction paper. I like to use card stock with young children because it is thicker and doesn’t absorb the paint like construction paper.

To help children who haven’t developed their fine motor skills or hand muscle strength yet, you can make an oval template out of card stock or cardboard that they can trace. You can also provide them with hand over hand support while cutting out the shape.

To begin painting, students will dip their blocks into the brown paint and press it down on the oval. You can use classic Legos, Duplo blocks, or any other type of textured block.

They will then carefully lift their blocks and see the painted pattern.

Students will continue to paint with their blocks until their football is completely covered. You can show children how the blocks are creating a pattern on their footballs that is similar to the texture on a real ball.

After the paint dries, the students can cut strips out of the white card stock and glue them onto the oval for the football laces.

This Block Painted Football Craft and a simple process art activity and a fun way to get ready for the football season.
