This is seriously my most favorite time of the year. It makes me happy. You can bet I spend most of December reading Children’s Christmas books to my students and children. They LOVE them and, honestly, so do I. So, I am excited to share my 12 favorite Christmas books with you!

Reading some of these Children’s Christmas Books to your little ones is a great way to really get everyone excited about the upcoming holiday. Even at a young age, children can become enthralled with the stories of Christmas. These are all excellent choices to help encourage their love of reading and story time.

A Wish to be a Christmas Tree by Colleen Monroe
Some birds, a deer, and a squirrel work to cheer up an aging pine that’s never gotten to be a Christmas tree. A lovely story with beautiful wildlife illustrations.
Bear Stays Up for Christmas by Karma Wilson
Bear would normally hibernate right through Christmas, but this year, his friends are determined to keep him awake and show him what he’s missing!
The Littlest Elf by Brandi Dougherty
New York Time’s bestsellers of the book, The Littlest Penguin, bring us this sweet holiday story about the littlest elf! This book includes stickers too, which your little one is sure to enjoy. This is definitely one of those children’s Christmas books I would tuck into a stocking!
How do Dinosaurs Say Merry Christmas? by Jane Yolen
Laugh out loud at this comical look at what would happen if Dinosaurs tried to celebrate Christmas with us!
Clifford’s Christmas by Norman Bridwell

How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss
A Christmas season cannot go by in our house without reading this book at least 10 times! If you don’t have this classic in your collection, I urge you look into that!
The Littlest Christmas Tree by R.A. Herman
This is a lovely and uplifting story about a little Christmas tree whose wishes finally come true when somebody takes her home.
Pete the Cat Saves Christmas by James Dean
In this rockin’ new spin on the traditional tale, The Night Before Christmas, Pete the Cat proves that giving your all in the spirit of Christmas is the totally groovy thing to do.
Llama Llama Holiday Drama by Anna Dewdney
Poor Llama Llama is tired of waiting for Christmas to come! This rhyming book gets the impatient emotions of a preschooler spot-on. Your children will laugh at and relate to Llama Llama’s drama.
