Veterans Day will be here before we know and what better way to teach our students about this special holiday than having them create their very own Veterans Day Emergent Reader.

My students enjoy reading our stacks of USA Books this time of year. If it’s an election year we hold mock elections so our little learners can have a better concept of what elections mean. Students enjoy making patriotic crafts as we honor and celebrate our Veterans.

If you’re looking for ways to manage your literacy curriculum you’ll want to check out my literacy stations.

This Veterans Day Emergent Reader will be the perfect addition to your lesson plans. This is perfect for pre-k, kindergarten, and first grade students.

Veterans Day Emergent Reader

This Veterans Day Emergent Reader is a great way to connect veterans with social studies. This resource will be the perfect addition to your lesson plans and allow your students to combine social studies and language arts.

Inside You’ll Find

  • 14 pages to complete your emergent reader (download below)
  • Each page has 2 sides to the readers

This Veterans Day Emergent Reader walks students through a very basic introduction to what Veterans Day is about. Each page contains one to two sentences and then has an image above it.

There is a color and black and white version for students included in this freebie. You can print off a color version to go in the classroom library and print off black and white versions for each of your students.

If you choose to do black and white, you can have your students color their Veterans Day Emergent Reader prior to reading. I always find this helps introduce students to the material, while also providing them with some ownership over their own book.

If you use the Veterans Day Emergent Reader in the classroom while you are learning about this special holiday, you can send it home with your students to add to their book collection at home.

If you do not have time to incorporate Veterans Day into your lesson plans this year, no worries! You can simply send the book home and have students complete it at home.

The download button for the Veterans’ Day emergent reader doesn’t seem to be working. I would love to use it. Is it an issue on your end? Thanks!
