I can’t believe Christmas is just right around the corner. We just love doing Christmas tree crafts and have a really cute and simple one to share today. This Christmas Tree Thumbprint Art Craft is a simple and fun personalized craft kiddos love to make.

Our kiddos love making hands-on artwork to take home to their family. This fingerprint craft is a silly way for students to make pretty crafts to decorate our classroom or home.

We love introducing learning activities that coincide with the holidays. We dig into literacy with these Christmas Middle Sound Match-Ups. And show what we know with these Christmas Numbers Match-Up. Our students get so into building their trees and matching their cards with these games they don’t even realize they are learning.

Our kids love bingo so every holiday we make time for some game playing with our Holiday Bingo Bundle. The giggles and laughter is contagious.

One of my favorite units during the holidays is our Christmas Around the World Craft and Activities Unit. This is an amazing and interactive way for our students to learn how other places around the world celebrate Christmas.

As Christmas is quickly approaching what better way to get into the spirit than by making some fun Christmas crafts? This thumbprint art craft is a great way for preschoolers and kindergartners to get creative and festive. They can use different colors to create a colorful Christmas tree masterpiece. So gather your supplies and let’s get started!

Materials Needed for the Christmas Tree Craft:

  • White paper
  • Colored paper (To contrast with the white. We used black.)
  • Crayon (or something to trace with)
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Paint in Christmas colors like red, green, gold, etc.

Getting the Christmas Tree Thumbprint Art Craft Ready:

To prepare for this Christmas Tree craft, I first made a Christmas Tree template from the colored paper.  To do this, I folded the paper in half and drew half of a Christmas tree shape along the folded side. I kept it simple by drawing three connected triangle shapes, with a rectangle for the trunk at the bottom.

Finally, I cut along the lines to make complete the Christmas tree shape, trimming it just a bit to get the desired Christmas Tree shape. You can use this same template to make many Christmas tree templates at a time to do it with a whole class.

After the Christmas Tree shapes are cut, it’s time to do the craft with the kids!

Doing the Christmas Tree Thumbprint Art :

The student will start by taping the Christmas Tree down where they would like it on the paper.  We used two pieces of rolled paper under the Christmas Tree shape. Double-sided tape works well too.

Now it’s time to start painting!  Dip one finger into the paint and start making fingerprints.

Be sure to do fingerprints all along the edge of the shape first. This will help the Christmas Tree show up well at the end.

After making fingerprints along the edge of the shape, start making scattered fingerprints all around the paper.  It’s fun to try other colors like red or gold too!

After you’re finished making fingerprints all around the paper, it’s time to peel up the shape to reveal your Christmas Tree!  This is the fun part. Slowly peel up the colored Christmas Tree shape, being careful not to tear the paper.

Now your Christmas Tree is complete!  Try experimenting with the tree in different places, or by using different paint colors.

Christmas Tree Thumbprint Art Craft is beautiful for classroom decorations, gifts and to include in a Christmas card. This is a perfect keepsake gift parents will love. Students get so excited about making their thumbprint on the tree. Make sure they don’t press too hard so that there isn’t any smudging or overlapping prints. This craft can be done at home or in school as part of holiday celebrations.

This is such a great idea for a craft for toddlers. Last time I did finger painting with my toddler we had to call the carpet cleaner. So I am more prepared this time. My kids are going to love this. We are going to do this as our Christmas eve craft. Thank you!
