Make learning through the cold months fun with this free-to-print Snowball CVC Word Building activity! It’s perfect for winter learning.

Our students love winter and snow… even if it doesn’t snow where they live.
So while we may not be able to make and throw snowballs, we can bring snow into the classroom in so many ways like with this Snowstorm in a Jar.
To make winter an even bigger part of our classrooms without getting little fingers and toes cold, we do Snowman Match-Ups, read fun winter books, and even make adorable snowman fingerprint art projects!
To help our students turn their excitement into learning, we make learning fun with snowy activities like this Snowball CVC word building activity.
We can even bring snow into math with Snowman Number Match-Ups, or Snowman Editable Addition and Subtraction for more advanced learners.
As our students begin to recognize sight words and develop their phonemic awareness, we can encourage that with activities like this CVC word building activity.

Using the Snowman CVC Word Building Freebie
This Snowball CVC World Building activity uses cute characters and snowballs to make spelling and word-building fun. Each page includes an igloo with a word picture and the three-letter word on snowballs.
This winter-themed literacy activity has very little prep and the simple shapes make it easy to cut out, so you don’t waste precious hours cutting.
Storing Your Match-Ups
Gather up the activity and place it in a plastic container. I love using plastic pencil cases to store centers like these. It keeps everything in one place and does not take up a ton of space.
Here’s how I keep my Language Arts materials organized throughout the year.
To get this freebie, use the ‘click here to download’ button at the bottom of this page.
You can use this fun word-building activity as a group activity during centers, or for individuals to work on independently.
Students will choose an igloo with a picture on it, and then will sort through the snowballs to build the word.
This student chose the word “cut” and is sorting through to find the letters to build the word alongside the igloo.
You can easily differentiate this activity to meet your students’ needs. Modify it for students who need more support by only giving them the igloo for their word, and only a few letter snowballs including the letters for their word.
To make it more challenging you could spread all the igloos out on the floor or a table and have students build all the words at the same time. They can then write the words down or write them in a sentence.
