My students were always SO much more engaged in their learning why I was able to tie the material into themes or various things that they were interested in. During the winter months this Initial Sound Snowman Printable will have your students so excited about learning – they actually may have no clue that they are even doing it!

A snowman match up to help students identify beginning sounds of words.

Buy our Snowman Match-Up Bundle and SAVE BIG!

Initial Sound Snowman Printable comes with 26 pages of snowmen. Each page covers a letter of the alphabet. The head of the snowman has the letter and then there are five snowballs that each have a picture that starts with that letter.

The Initial Sound Snowman Printable is the perfect addition to your literacy centers this winter. This free printable is great for preschool and kindergarten students.

It is recommended that you print the mats and counters on cardstock and laminate so you can truly make this an interactive center and also so it can last for years to come.

Doing Initial Sound Snowman Printable

Students will first pick a snowman head and identify the given letter.

The Initial Sound Snowman Printable is the perfect addition to your literacy centers this winter. This free printable is great for preschool and kindergarten students.

Students will then sort through all of the pieces, looking for different pictures that start with that letter.

Each snowman head has five snowballs with pictures. Once the snowman has all five balls, you can move on to a new letter and start again.

Another way this could be completed, is to have all of the snowman heads laid out on a table or even the floor. Students will then sort the remaining puzzles pieces according to their number.

If you have younger (or struggling) students that would be overwhelmed by the number of puzzle pieces in this activity, scale it back. Provide them with only a handful of numbers. Once they master those, you can slowly add in more.
