If you cannot tell from all of my other Christmas posts, I LOVE Christmas. This time of year makes me SO happy and after having kids of my own, my obsession has only grown. I try and do hands-on activities with my oldest every week and this week we made it Christmas themed with these Christmas Tree Number Math Manipulatives. Your students (or children) will have so much fun practicing their numbers and working on their one to one correspondence.

Two paper mats with christmas trees on them, one with the number 3 and one with the number 8, with paper lights added on top to match the number.

Christmas Tree Number Mats are ideal math manipulatives to use throughout the holiday season.  This printable set comes with 20 number mats, covering numbers 1-20 and three pages of light counters.

It is recommended that you print this set of math manipulatives on cardstock and laminate so you can truly make this an interactive center and also so it can last for years to come.  There are many easy to use laminators if you are working in a home classroom.  You can use laminating pouches or a laminating machine to keep these protected for years of use.

Christmas Tree Number Mats is the perfect addition to your math centers this holiday season.  This free printable is perfect for preschool, kindergarten, and first grade students.

When I did this activity with my daughter, we used plastic lights from Hobby Lobby to add a little more fun to the activity. If you are wanting something similar delivered to your front door, I found that light bulb beads are idea!  However, the light counters will be perfect!

Using Christmas Tree Number Printable Math Manipulatives

Students will first pick a number tree from the pile. They will point to the number and say it out loud.  If working in a group, you can take turns so that each child has a chance to say it out loud.  You could also have groups work together and say the number in unison.  Adapt this part of the activity to your own children or students needs.

Next, they will use the light beads mentioned above, or the provided counter lights and count out enough lights to equal the number on the mat.

Some children prefer using a more substantial item to help them count.  This is especially helpful with children who may have sensory issues, or who need to work on those fine motor skills during their learning time.

If you have some students that are needing a little more of a challenge, you can have students write various addition sentences that equal the number. The lights will provide go along with these math manipulatives to help them find the different ways that the number can be made.

Hi Paige, it seems to be working now. After you click the download button you’ll enter your name and email. The download will be sent to your email, sometimes it gets sent to your spam or others folder so be sure to check there. If you’re using a school email they often block us from sending things to that email so you might want to use your personal email. Hope you enjoy it!
