We have had a lot of fun with our thumbprint art here, but thought it was a great time to create a beautiful handprint rainbow to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! Your students are going to LOVE this one and it creates a fun keepsake for parents too.

We have had a lot of fun with our thumbprint art, but thought we should try this St. Patrick's Day Handprint Rainbow to add to our rainbow crafts.

Getting Ready for St. Patrick’s Day Handprint Rainbow

We have had a lot of fun with our thumbprint art, but thought we should try this St. Patrick's Day Handprint Rainbow to add to our rainbow crafts.

Gather the materials:

  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • White Canvas
  • Gold Glitter Foam Sheet
  • White Foam Sheet
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Creating the St. Patrick’s Day Handprint Rainbow

Prepare a paper plate with a rainbow of paint colors, including black.

Paint your students’ fingers red, orange, yellow, blue, green, and purple. You can mix this up for the colors you have on hand.

Paint the palm of your child’s hand with black paint.

The paint should be put on thick so the handprint shows up well on the white background.

Firmly press your studnet’s hand on the corner of the canvas. Lift up in one quick motion. Be careful not to smear their hand on the canvas.

Allow the paint to dry completely.

Let your students paint a rainbow coming off of the fingertips.

Allow the paint to dry completely.

Cut small circles from gold glitter foam and glue onto the black “pot of gold.”

Cut a cloud shape from white foam and glue on top of the end of the rainbow. Trim off any excess foam.

That’s it! Aren’t they adorable?
