Materials Needed for St. Patrick’s Day Initial Sound and Number Match-Ups:
Getting St. Patrick’s Day Initial Sound and Number Match-Ups Ready:
Print the match-ups (Color or Black & White), laminate and cut using a paper trimmer. Gather all of the pieces and place in a plastic container. I love using plastic pencil cases to store centers like these. It keeps everything in one place and does not take up a ton of space.
This obviously doesn’t take a ton of time to put together and makes a wonderful activity to help your kids have fun and learn at the same time.
Doing St. Patrick’s Day Initial Sound and Number Match-Ups
Students will start the activity by choosing a pot of gold number card. My daughter was doing the number match-up and choose the pot of gold with the number two.
Students will then sort through all of the picture cards looking for the ones that start with the number two.
Each pot of gold card has six number cards with a visual. Once the pot of gold has has six number cards, you can move on to a new number and start again.
Another way this could be completed, is to have all of the pot of fold cards laid out on a table or even the floor. Students will then sort the remaining puzzles pieces according to their initial sound or number.
If you have younger (or struggling) students that would be overwhelmed by the number of puzzle pieces in this activity, scale it back. Provide them with only a handful of cards, instead of all six. Once they master those, you can slowly add in more.
