If you have not been able to tell so far, I LOVE teaching with themes. This St. Patrick’s Day Blend Match-Up will be the perfect addition to your literacy centers. Your students will be having so much fun that they will not even know that they are learning.18

St. Patrick's Day Blend Match-Up is a fun, hands-on way to review blends during the month of March. This free printable is perfect for kindergarten, first grade, and second grade.

St. Patrick’s Day Blend Match-Up covers twenty different blends (l blends, r blends, and s blends). There are three pieces for each blend: one has a pot of gold that contains the blend, and then the other two are coins that have a picture on it that starts with the corresponding blend.

Getting St. Patrick’s Day Blend Match-Up Ready

Print the match-ups, laminate, and cut using a paper trimmer.  Gather all of the pieces and place them in a plastic container. I love using plastic pencil cases to store centers like these. It keeps everything in one place and does not take up a ton of space.

This obviously doesn’t take a ton of time to put together and makes a wonderful activity to help your kids have fun and learn at the same time.

Doing St. Patrick’s Day Blend Match-Up

Students will start the activity by choosing a pot of gold blend card.

They will then sort through all of the picture cards, looking for the pictures that start with that blend.

Each pot of gold card has two picture cards. Once the pot of gold has had two cards, they can move on to a new blend and start again.

Another way this could be completed is to have all of the pot of fold cards laid out on a table or even the floor. Students will then sort through the remaining puzzle pieces according to their blend.

If you have younger (or struggling) students that may be overwhelmed by the number of puzzle pieces in this activity, scale it back. Provide them with only a handful of blends. Once they master those, you can slowly add in more.

You will press “get my printable” and then you will be taken to the freebie. If that doesn’t work, I would try a different browser. Please let me know if that doesn’t work.

I am also having trouble. I haven’t had issues getting downloads from you until now. When I click on the “get my printable”…nothing happens. I can’t switch browsers at work. I may try when I get home.
