Getting Rhyming Leaves Match-Up Freebie Ready
Getting this free printable ready is easy. First, print on cardstock and laminate. This allows the center to be used year after year.
Then you can use a paper cutter to quickly trim the pieces. After that, you are ready to go!
Doing Rhyming Leaves Match-Up Freebie Printable
Students will start the activity by stacking the rhyming tree cards in a pile and placing all the leaf pieces on a table or the floor.
They will then pick a tree rhyming card. This student chose a tree card with a “wig” on it.
Students will then sort through all of the leaves looking for pictures that rhyme with the tree card. The first card this student found was a leaf with “dig”.
Once the tree has three rhyming leaves on it, the match-up is completed.
They can place the match-up to the side and repeat the steps above until all tree cards have been completed.
If you feel like your students would be overwhelmed with all of the pieces to this puzzle, start small. Students can initially match-up one leaf to each tree. Once those are mastered, you can add another leaf and so on.

Hi Jennifer I am struggling with where to place the card that shows a car with a glob of mud behind it. Is that picture a ‘bog’? and also the picture of the dog eating a bowl of dog food….and for the pen tip tree I have 4 matching; hip, ship, lip, dip. Help!!!
Hi there Kim, thank you so much for reaching out – these can be a bit tricky sometimes! For the car, is it the one with the smog that goes with the log? For the dog at the dog bowl – that is fed and goes with wed. For the pen, the pictures that go with this are – hen, ten (10 apples in the pic), den. For the sharp point, it’s pointing at the tip. This matches up with the lip, hip, and dip. The “ship” would go with the hug and be a tugboat shortened name tug. Hope this helps 🙂
