The Name Game Activity Ice Cream Scoops Freebie
What better way to *enjoy* the hot weather, than with some cold and tasty ice cream. All three of our kids are lactose intolerant and we have just recently found a little ice cream shop that has vegan ice cream that they can enjoy. I knew that there was no better way to play into their newfound obsession than to turn it into a fun, learning name activity with these ice cream scoops, particularly the build your name one.

It’s crazy how using food and/or clipart can automatically make learning more fun! Molly loved playing with her ice cream scoops as part of the name game activity and thought it was a blast! At first, I had to model for her what she was supposed to do, but after a few times, she caught right on and was quickly making her own ice cream cone names.

When she got bored of making her own name, she helped her sister build her ice cream scoops name, which was all fun and games until Charlotte started taking the pieces and crumpling the scoops. 🙂

To prevent this from happening, you can grab some laminating sheets and laminate your ice cream scoops before you get your kids started. You can then use these over and over again as a great way to help them practice not just spelling their name, but making any number of word combinations!
I love using these Avery Self-Adhesive Laminating Sheets for home use if you don’t have access to a classroom laminating machine at school. Cardstock is another great option to have on hand to keep them sturdy for multiple usages.

We ended the name activity with a small bowl of ice cream, of course. A win for everyone involved, including me!

When I try to edit and add my own letters, it doesn’t come up with the same font as shown and the font size is tiny. How to I fix that?
You will need to download all KG fonts and then it should work. I completely forgot to add that part. I will add it onto the website and product. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
I would like to see the black and white version. It’s a great deal of ink to use with16 children
Hi!
I am not able to click the button to get my freebie. Nothing happens when I am trying to download it.
Should the font work on my Mac?
Yes. You will just need to make sure that you download her fonts that are Mac compatible.
HI I downloaded this along with the Kg for the font but I am still unable to edit the icecream scoops how do I do this please
Hi there! Thank you for your download.
Have you tried refreshing the document? Sometimes that helps me be able to use a new font I download.
This is absolutely fab. Went perfectly with a whole ice cream themed day. Another great creation.
Hi, is there any way to add for scoops for more letters? I would love to use this but I’m needing another scoop.
Are you able to print multiple pages in order to get more scoops? That’s what I did for my kids with longer names.
a great thanks for sharing your ideas. this would be of great help in my teaching slow learners in grade 1. looking forward for more ideas ….
Wonderful! I hope they enjoy.
Thank you for this activity. I did download the font from TPT. However, I can’t seem to change the font size when trying to enter the name on the cone or the letters on the ice cream. Any suggestions? It is a small font and doesn’t look like your project at all.
Thank you
The font size should be set as “automatic fill” so if the font is installed correctly it should work. Also, try checking to make sure your adobe is up to date. Hope that helps!
Where is the link for the freebie? I’m just taken to Teachers Pay Teachers to buy it?
Hello! At the bottom of the post there is a Click here to download button and after you enter your email address, you will receive the freebie. There is a link in the post too for a bundle you can purchase at my TPT store.
Hello, I downloaded this freebie, but it is not giving me the option to change fonts. I already have KG fonts on my PC, but the font that keeps coming up is the default font and the lowercase a is not suitable for kinders. Please let me know what I can do to fix this. Thank you.
Hello!
I am so sorry that you are having issues with the editable fields. There are two things that can usually cause this.
1) Adobe Acrobat is not updated.
2) The font for the resource needs to be downloaded and installed in order for you to get the correct font. Here is a great article on how you can do this.
I now have new software that allows me to embed the fonts into the PDF so you do not have to download the fonts. I hope to get this done sometime soon and will send an email to my list letting people know when everything is updated.
Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience and I hope that this helps.
Thank you for the great activity!
You’re welcome! This is one of my favorite activities!
I don’t know if this will help but I was having trouble downloading the freebies on this site. I have an ad blocker program and when I unblocked the ads on the adabofglue site, I had no problem with the redirect and download,. Something to check.
