Celebrate Mom with this adorable I Love Mom Thumbprint Craft. It’s cute and personalized with the child’s thumbprints. Mom will love it! The kids will also love choosing Mom’s favorite colors and making this for her. This craft is part of the Thumbprint Art series and is also a great fine motor craft for preschool and kindergartners. And with Mother’s Day right around the corner, this craft can be done in no time at all.

Materials Needed for the I Love Mom Mother’s Day Thumbprint Craft:

  • I Love Mom Template (see below)
  • White paper
  • Colored cardstock
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Masking tape/painters tape
  • Paint – you could use mom’s favorite colors

Getting the Mother’s Day Thumbprint Craft Ready:

To get this craft ready, you’ll need to print the template onto cardstock. Printing onto colored cardstock works best, as it contrasts with the white paper that students will be using for the craft.  Alternatively, you can print onto white cardstock and trace the template onto colored construction paper.

Get the paint ready for the kids to use by putting it out onto a plate or something they can press their thumb onto.

It also helps to get the tape ready by rolling it into pieces, ready to use to stick the letters and heart down. For this craft, they will need many small, rolled, pieces of tape. Masking tape (painter’s tape) works best for this. Regular clear tape could tear the background paper.

Doing the I Love Mom Craft:

The students will start by taping the “I <3 Mom” letters and heart down.  It is best to use a piece of rolled tape on each end of the letters so that no edges are sticking up for paint to get under.

Next, choose a color that you think Mom will like, and begin making thumbprints all around the edges of the letters and hear.  Be sure to fill in the gaps with more thumbprints.

Continue making thumbprints around each letter, and then begin making more and more away from the letters.

Next, you can use another color of paint and make more thumbprints all around the rest of the page. When you get to the corners, it helps to hold the paper down so it doesn’t lift while you make your prints.

After the letters and heart are outlined with thumbprints and there are prints all around the paper, let the paint dry.

After the paint dries, slowly pull up each letter to reveal! Isn’t it pretty?
