This week we are having fun continuing our Animal Alphabet Letter of the Week Crafts for preschoolers and kindergarteners! Last week we finished P is for Parrot, and the week before was O is for Owl. Today’s letter craft features another bird- a quail! Let’s get started with Q is for Quail Craft!

  • Glue

Getting the Animal Alphabet Q is for Quail Craft Ready

Choose whether you’d like your students to have the tracing version of the craft (includes dotted letters to trace “Q q is for Quail” at the bottom of the page), or the non-tracing version. Print out enough letters for each student. Also be sure to print off enough copies of the craft pieces for each student (plus a couple extras for mistakes).

Doing the Animal Alphabet Q is for Quail Craft

Many students will be unfamiliar with what a quail is. Unlike the birds in our last two letter crafts (the parrot and owl), the quail may be more of a mystery to students. You may choose to offer pictures of quail or even share a quail plush (this one that makes an authentic quail call would be perfect!) for their examination. Students can choose to color their letter Q’s in any way they wish! The letter will form the body of the quail.

Pass out the craft pieces for students to color and cut as well. The craft pieces include a head, beak, wing, and topknot. A little animal fact you can share with your students: the topknot is actually made up of six feathers that droop forward on the quail. Both male and female quail have them.

The last step in the craft is to glue the craft pieces onto the letter. Students can use the included sample photo to see where each piece will go on their papers.

The finished project is perfect for displaying in the classroom! Or you can choose to save each project until the end of the series and bind them into an animal alphabet keepsake book.
