Welcome back to another Animal Alphabet Letter of the Week craft! Every week here at A dAb of Glue Will Do we will be sharing an alphabet craft that preschool and kindergarten students can complete as part of a letter of the week project.

If you are just joining us, make sure to look back at our previous crafts (A is for Alligator, B is for Butterfly, and C is for Cat). This week we are continuing the Animal Alphabet series with D is for Dinosaur Craft.

The animal alphabet crafts in this series were designed with preschoolers and kindergartners in mind. They offer an opportunity for students to work on coloring, tracing, cutting, and gluing all while learning more about the letters of the alphabet! The project is developmentally appropriate for their skill level and encourages creativity as they are invited to color and glue the elements of the craft together themselves!

Getting the Letter D Craft Ready

Print enough letter D and craft sheets for every student. You may want to print extras in case students decide they need a do-over for any reason.

Doing the Letter D Craft

Have each student color their letter. You may want to talk about how nobody really knows what color dinosaurs were. The only records we have of them now are fossil remains, which don’t tell us about their coloring. Invite students to be creative with their color choices! There is no wrong color to color their dinosaurs.

After coloring, students can trace the “D is for Dinosaur” text below the letter. This is optional and there are also sheets which do not include the tracing text.

Next, pass out the Dinosaur craft pieces (they include four rectangular legs, five triangle spikes, and an oval head). Have students color each piece then follow the bold black lines to cut them out.

Last, have students use a glue stick to stick each craft piece to the appropriate spot on the letter D.

This project was fun for both my 4 and 5 year old boys. Each of them made a unique dinosaur that they were so proud to share!
