Literacy stations and centers are an important part of the school day in early childhood education. It’s the time of day where students practice targeted skills, often independently or with limited hands-on help. Not only are students growing academically during center rotations, but stations also offer social development as the students learn to work independently or with peers.
Creating engaging yet effective math and literacy centers is crucial to having a successful classroom! We want to set students up for success and mastery while at the same time not having to spend hours prepping materials.
This is why I am such a big fan of our match-up games! They are so easy to adapt to any theme or skill, but the best part? They are quite productive for learning. Students will engage their bodies and senses while learning targeted specific skills, but they will be having so much fun they won’t even realize they are learning!
Bulk up your math centers with targeted math skills match-up games like our Popcorn Numbers, Snowman Numbers, Apple Seed Numbers or even our Christmas Number Match-Up.
Add these classic match-up games to your preschool, kinder or first grade literacy centers: Apple Digraphs, Ice Cream Blends, Flower Ending Sounds or Snowman Middle Sounds.

What you’ll need:

We suggest printing on cardstock for firmer pieces in those little hands. If you are utilizing the black and white version, print on colorful cardstock or have your students color in the turkeys! Once printed, cut each ending sound turkey and their feathers out using scissors. Laminate for additional support so you can reuse them every November!
Because this product has a lot of individual pieces, we suggest storing the Turkey Ending Sound Games in plastic pencil cases for the easiest and most convenient access!

Using the Turkey Ending Sound Match-Up
This turkey ending sound activity for students will make a great addition to your literacy centers as they can be completed by 1-3 students at a time. Start students with one or two ending sound turkey cutouts. Have them identify the sound out loud and then sort out the feathers, matching them to the correct corresponding end sound.
Use them within a whole group setting to teach a lesson on ending sounds. Or utilize them within a guided reading group as a focus skill.
What’s the best way to use our match-ups in a group setting? Simply put the targeted ending sound or sounds up on the white board with a magnet or tape. Pass out the feathers with the corresponding ending sound at random to students. You can include feathers that don’t go to either of the targeted ending sounds for an additional challenge.

Once every student has a feather, each student takes a turn identifying the image on the feather. Have the student identify which ending sound is present and ask the class if they agree. Once the ending sound has been discovered, hang the feather next to the appropriate turkey until the turkeys have all their feathers.
However you choose to utilize these amazing Ending Sound Turkey Match-Ups, your students will love completing the turkeys’ beautiful plumages. These match-up games provide the perfect mix of body and mind engagement while also being so. darn. cute!
