Whales are so cool! Any season is a great time to talk about whales and other sea creatures! Take it a step further and incorporate them into your learning centers with this set of Whale Subtraction Clip Cards freebie! Your students are going to love these.

Whale Subtraction clip cards covers several common and easy subtraction problems for early learners. It is recommended that you print the clip cards on cardstock and laminate so you can truly make this an interactive center and also so it can last for years to come. Using subtraction clip cards like these in your classroom is a fun way to include the animal or ocean theme in learning.
Using Whale Subtraction Clip Cards
Students will pick a subtraction problem of their choice and then find the solution below. This student is working on the 15-9.

They will then look for the correct numbers that are equal to the number on the whale. Incorporate number writing practice by having your students trace of the numbers as well.
Once they have completed a clip card, they can select another to complete. If they are uncomfortable using the clothespins, then you can always use a small manipulative such as buttons or even fish shaped crackers.
