DIY Tactile Alphabet Cards

My oldest is starting preschool in less than a month. I have no clue where the time has gone and I do not want to blink because I know before I know it, she will be in kindergarten and then graduating high school {sob fest}. She knows her letters and the sounds that they make, but we have not really worked too much on letter formation so I wanted to find an activity that would allow her to do this in a fun and hands-on way and DIY Tactile Alphabet Cards fit the bill. This freebie is perfect for preschool age students wanting to learn their letters and also a great back to school center for kindergarten students needing a little refresher.

Different alphabet letter cards with different manipulatives and materials outlining the letters.

This freebie contains all letters of the alphabet and comes with a set of uppercase letters and a set lowercase letters. There are so many things that you can do with these flash cards. You can make tactile cards that encourage the students to trace the letters with their fingers, introducing them to letter formation.

You can glue various materials to the letters and create a sensory card for students or children to trace with their fingers.

You can have them use playdough to make the letters.

You can laminate the letters and then have them practice writing each letter.

If you are wanting to keep things simple (and clean) have students match the uppercase letters to the lowercase letters.

If your students or children are older, they can practice making words with the cards. The possibilities are endless.

I printed our alphabet cards on cardstock since we were planning on gluing various items onto the letters. I was worried that the weight would destroy regular paper. If you are going to have students practice writing on the cards, I recommend laminating the cards so that they will last longer and not tear. A vis-a-vie marker is always great for these activities.
