Use those fine motor skills and have fun making this super cute bee finger puppet craft! This craft is great for preschool and kindergarten aged students and goes along well with insect themes. There are so many ways to use them in fingerplays and songs too!
I love these snail finger puppets and I couldn’t wait to make these bees with my kids. They had a lot of fun buzzing around with them on their fingers.
Materials Needed for the Bee Finger Puppet Craft:
- 2 black pipe cleaners
- 1 yellow pipe cleaner
- tissue paper
- scissors
- glue
- Optional: Tape (use tape on the ends of the pipe cleaners to cover sharp ends)
Getting the Bee Finger Puppet Craft Ready:
To get this craft ready, I cut wing shapes out of tissue paper. Older kids might be able to do this on their own.
Note: We used whole pipe cleaners for this craft, but you can also cut them in half to make smaller bees for smaller fingers or to use as a pencil topper instead.
Doing the Bee Finger Puppet Craft:
First bend one of the black pipe cleaners in half.
Next, put the other black pipe cleaner and the yellow pipe cleaner side-by-side and bend the tips over the folded black pipe cleaner.
Starting at the base of a pointer finger, twist the pipe cleaners around until you reach the end. Continue twisting the black to make a head, leaving enough room to make antennae.
Curl the ends of the black pipe cleaner to make antennae.
Glue the wings on the body.
After the glue dries it’s time to play!
These work well with bee songs or finger plays. One fun song is Five Little Bees using one bee on each finger. Or try it with 5 students, buzzing around while adding a bee at a time.
When you’re not playing, this Bee Finger Puppet Craft make great pencil topper!
