Green christmas tree with the name "sarah" on it with multicolored paper ornaments with the letters of the name on them

Celebrate the magic of Christmas with this Editable Name Activity. The magic of Christmas is all around us, and it’s easy to teach children about this wonder with our editable name activity. It’s a simple way to introduce the concept of the holiday season to children, and it can be done in a number of ways.

Our littlest learners love talking about all the exciting things they want to do during the holiday season: seeing Santa, what new toy they are hoping to get this year, and decorating the classroom and their home. We enjoy visiting the Christmas tree farm and of course, decorating our tree is a big deal! With this activity, our kids can decorate their little trees with ornaments displaying their very own names.

Christmas trees come in so many different shapes and sizes kids can’t help but be fascinated by them. Students are so proud to decorate their trees, they talk about their trees all day long.

We make puzzle-piece snowflake ornaments and are even able to incorporate some science into our salt crystal ornaments. Kids get so excited about bringing their art pieces home to hang up and their families can cherish their masterpieces for years to come.

To connect literacy with Christmas trees we play our Christmas Tree blend puzzles. To strengthen our student’s writing skills, we get the creative juices flowing with our under the tree writing prompts. You can’t help smiling or laughing with their responses.

Our students feel accomplished when they master spelling their names. To bring Christmas together with this skill, I’ve created this Christmas Editable Name Activity so our youngest learners can practice building their name in a hands-on way!

If you want more ways to implement the Christmas theme into your classroom curriculum, check out more of our Christmas Learning activities.

Getting the Christmas Editable Name Activity Ready

This winter-themed editable printable is easy to prep and will be an exciting activity for our kids during the holidays. After you purchase the activity and download it, you’ll need to open the document with the most up-to-date version of Adobe.

First, you will type out the name of your student (or child) in the highlighted space on the tree. Then you will spell out that name on the ornaments, using one letter per ornament.

I find that it works best to print these out on cardstock and laminate them before you cut them so it can easily be used year after year.

Using the Christmas Editable Name Activity

Students will have their own tree and ornaments with their names’ letters on them. You can store their pieces in Ziploc baggies so pieces are easier to keep track of.

Students will first look at their name on the tree. This helps guide little learners to recognize their name and associate it with it in print.

To start the name activity they can place all of their pieces on a table or on the floor. Students will then start decorating their tree with the ornaments from the pile until their name is built. This student’s name is “Sarah.”

To differentiate for older students, you can leave the tree blank and students can build their name on their own. You can also leave everything blank and have students write the letters on the ornaments with markers or vis-a-vie markers, where they can then decorate their trees without any guidance at all.

Whether they are decorating their trees with the letters from their names or showing off mastering their name with their Christmas-themed worksheets, your students will have a sense of accomplishment.

The Christmas Editable Name Activity is a fun and interactive activity that is great for students whether they have mastered their name or not. They will love seeing their ornaments come together to build their very own name.

Kids will be able to share their creations with their friends and family, so they can spread the holiday cheer.
