We’re back for another Animal Alphabet Letter of the Week Activity! Last week we completed J is for Jellyfish and we are moving on this week to another fun animal- K is for Koala! (You can check out all our previous letter crafts here). Let’s get started!

If you are just joining us on this alphabet series, here’s some more information on it: This letter of the week series was designed specifically for preschool and kindergarten students. The crafts include fine motor work (coloring, tracing, cutting and of course gluing) and encourage creativity!

This little letter K Koala holding Eucalyptus leaves is just so cute! Your students are going to have a great time completing this activity!

  • Glue

Getting the Letter K Craft Ready

Print enough letter K and craft sheets for every student. You may want to print extras in case students decide they need a do-over for any reason. (Note: There are two types of alphabet pages included in the pack. One includes a place to trace the “K is for Koala” sentence and one does not. Choose the sheet that is most appropriate for your children’s abilities.)

Doing the Letter K Craft

Ask each child color their alphabet letters. If your students are not familiar with koalas, you may want to pair this activity with reading a book like Koala Lou by Mem Fox.

After coloring, children can trace the text below their letters (keep in mind this is optional. There is a page that does not include the tracing text for your convenience).

After the children have finished coloring, pass out the craft sheets. These include a face, two ears, two Eucalyptus leaves, and a white belly. They can color the pieces to match their letter K koala body.

Next, children can cut each craft using child-safe scissors. Each letter of the week craft in this series has been thoughtfully planned to include repetition and encourage mastery of scissor skills.

After cutting children can use the example on their craft sheets to glue each piece in place on the letters.

The finished product can be displayed on an alphabet wall or saved to bind into an Animal Alphabet Book at the end of the series!
