This hand print mitten craft is a variation on the common hand print crafts done during the Christmas season to preserve the appearance of a child’s hand. From year to year, kids and parents love comparing hand sizes to see how much they have grown as they decorate their Christmas tree.
What’s the best thing about cold weather? Mittens!
This hand print mitten craft makes a wonderful gift for parents or grandparents, holiday decoration, or a Christmas decoration right in the classroom showing off the hand prints of your students. You can make the mittens all red like in our example, or let the kids choose the color of their own mittens for a colorful mitten rainbow.

There isn’t much advanced prep for this craft. Make sure you have the supplies listed below on hand before starting this craft, but it’s likely you already have everything you need in your classroom already. The most unusual item needed for this craft is a string.

Doing the Hand Print Mitten Craft
Pour some white paint onto a paper plate. Have the kids cover their hands in paint, then press them onto a piece of red paper.
Sprinkle the hand prints with glitter while the paint is still wet. Let the paint dry before moving on.
Once the paint dries, cut out around the hand prints in a mitten shape.
Let the kids glue the pom poms to the cuffs of their mittens and the string between each mitten.
You can leave the mittens as-is, or glue them to a bigger piece of paper.
Either way, mark the date on the mittens and each child’s name.
Parents will love receiving this craft that they can use as a Christmas ornament or decoration during December.
