Implementing Spider Counting Mats In Your Classroom:

Spider Counting Mats comes with interactive playdough mats that review numbers one through twenty. There are also several pages of spider counting cards. It is recommended that you print both on cardstock and laminate for extra durability. This will allow you to use this printable for many Halloween seasons to come.

To get this math center ready, you will need to compile the following things: play dough mats and spider counters, vis-a-vie markers, and play dough. I typically have 3-5 students in each center. Make sure that you have enough supplies for all students to participate.

When students first start Spider Counting Mats, they will use play dough to form the given number. They will then use a vis-a-vie marker to trace the number word. Younger students might need more guidance on how to form the numbers using play dough. I was able to model this to my three year old daughter a few times. She was then able to form the numbers on her own.

If you do not want your students to use play dough, you can have them use a vis-a-vie marker to trace the number, as well as the number word. The ultimate goal is that students are practicing how to form the different numbers.

Next students will count out spiders, one at a time, until they equal the number that is on the interactive mat.
