Doing the Pirate Rhyming Puzzle

Students will start the activity by stacking the rhyming pirates in one pile and then setting all of the gold coin pieces on the floor or table.

They will then pick a pirate rhyming card. This student chose a “pirate” card with a “ham” on it.

Your students are going to LOVE this Pirate Rhyming Puzzle freebie. Perfect for preK, Kindergarten, and first grade!

Students will then sort through all of the gold coin pieces looking for the picture that rhymes with the pirate.

Help your early learners with this hands-on early literacy Pirate Rhyming Puzzle freebie.

Once there are four pirates and four gold pieces, the rhyming set is complete and students can move on to another vowel.

They can place the match-up to the side and repeat the steps above until all pirate puzzles have been completed.

If you feel like your students would be overwhelmed with all of the pieces to this puzzle, start small. Students can initially start one at a time or just start with one vowel. Once those are mastered, you can add another vowel card and so on.

Students are sure to LOVE this hands-on early literacy freebie featuring a Pirate Rhyming Puzzle!
