Getting Penguins: An Animal Study Ready:
This particular resource is full of an assortment of activities and centers, therefore, preparation will vary. Below is a quick rundown of each component in the Penguins: An Animal Study.
Science Lesson Plans for the Week
Throughout the week students will be completing science activities about penguins. They will learn the difference between a penguin and a puffin, a penguin’s life cycle, parts of a penguin, animals that have webbed feet and animals that do not, and apply everything they have learned at the end of the week by creating a penguin fact book or turkey research project.
Definition Posters
There are six different definition posters to help students better understand key vocabulary words about penguins.

Penguins and Puffins PowerPoint and Posters
There is a nine page PowerPoint that describes the similarities and differences between penguins and puffins. Real pictures are included. If you do not have access to a computer, there are identical posters that you can use instead.
Penguins and Puffins Venn Diagram
As a class, everyone will complete a penguin and puffin Venn Diagram. The pieces to complete this activity are included. Students can complete a penguin and puffin comparison worksheet or fill out their own Venn Diagram when finished.

Penguin PowerPoint and Posters
There is a ten page PowerPoint that introduces students to penguins. Real pictures are included. If you do not have access to a computer, there are identical posters that you can use instead.

Life Cycle of a Penguin
There are five posters that show the life cycle of a penguin. Students can complete a penguin life cycle worksheet after the lesson.

Do I Have Webbed Feet Sort and Worksheet
Since penguins have webbed feet, I thought it would be fun to include a sort that talked about animals that do and do not have webbed feet. There are 24 real pictures of animals for students to sort according to whether or not they have webbed feet. Upon completion of the lesson, students can complete a worksheet.

Parts of a Penguin
There is a poster that shows the different parts of a penguin. Upon completion of the lesson, students will complete a worksheet that will require them to label the different parts of a penguin.

Penguin Fact Book
This is perfect for younger students that are not quite ready for a research project. This craftivity has students apply everything that they have learned during the week. They will write five facts about penguins and illustrate each fact. For students that are unable to write just yet, the five penguin facts are already written and students will simply illustrate each fact.

Turkey Research Project Craftivity
If you would like your students to complete a penguin research project, this craftivity is for you! Students will research a penguin’s appearance, habitat, behaviors, diet, predators, and adaptations. There is also a source page so students can list where they found the information.
