Make learning fun with this themed Ice Cream Initial Sound Match-Up. Your elementary age students will love this fun ice cream themed literacy center! Perfect for literacy stations or small review groups. Use in your Preschool, Kindergarten, and First Grade classrooms. Black and white options available to save your color ink.

Included In Ice Cream Initial Sound Match-Up:

To get you started, this great kit includes all of the items below.  This is ideal for helping you get your classroom excited about summer and warm weather and is an ideal activity to keep them busy and having fun during centers, small groups, or those free time hours.

There are 82 pages of centers, covering all twenty six letters of the alphabet. Each ice cream cone has six scoops, each one showing a different picture that starts with the corresponding letter.

This resource also comes in black and white to save on ink.

Materials Needed for Ice Cream Initial Sound Match-Up:

  • paper or card stock
  • laminating pouches
  • laminator
  • paper cutter

Getting Ice Cream Initial Sound Match-Up Ready:

Print the match-ups (Color or Black & White), laminate and cut using a paper trimmer.  Gather all of the pieces and place in a plastic container. I love using plastic pencil cases to store centers like these. It keeps everything in one place and does not take up a ton of space.

Your elementary students will love this ice cream initial sound match up! The perfect addition to your literacy centers.

This obviously doesn’t take a ton of time to put together and makes a wonderful activity to help your kids have fun and learn at the same time.

Doing Ice Cream Initial Sound Match-Up

Students will start the activity by choosing a scoop with a letter on it . My daughter chose the scoop with the letter “Dd”.

Early literacy is hands-on fun with this ice cream initial sounds match up!

Students will then sort through all of the scoops with pictures looking for the ones that start with the letter “Dd”.

Each ice cream cone has six scoops with a visual. Once the ice cream cone has has six scoops representing the corresponding letter, they can move on to a new letter and start again.

Stacking the scoops on the ice cream initial sound match ups.

Another way this could be completed, is to have all of the ice cream cones laid out on a table or even the floor. Students will then sort through all of the scoops and place each one at the correct flower.

Students will have so much fun with this hands-on ice cream initial sounds match up!

If you have younger (or struggling) students that would be overwhelmed by the amount of puzzle pieces in this activity, scale it back. Provide them with only a few of the letters. Once they master those, you can slowly add in more.

Students will love this ice cream initial sounds match up! A fun addition to your early literacy centers.

Hey! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could find a captcha plugin for my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having trouble finding one? Thanks a lot!
