Getting Chickens: An Animal Study Ready:
This particular resource is full of an assortment of activities and centers, therefore, preparation will vary. Below is a quick rundown of each component in the Chickens: An Animal Study.
Science Lesson Plans for the Week
Throughout the week students will be completing science activities about chickens. They will learn the difference between a chicken and a duck, a chicken’s life cycle, parts of a chicken, oviparous animals and nonoviparous animals, and apply everything they have learned at the end of the week by creating a chickens fact book or chicken research project.
Definition Posters
There are six different definition posters to help students better understand key vocabulary words about chickens.

Chicken and Duck PowerPoint and Posters
There is a nine page PowerPoint that describes the similarities and differences between chickens and ducks. Real pictures are included. If you do not have access to a computer, there are identical posters that you can use instead.

Chicken and Duck Venn Diagram
As a class, everyone will complete a chicken and duck Venn Diagram. The pieces to complete this activity are included. Students can complete a chicken and duck comparison worksheet or fill out their own Venn Diagram when finished.

Chicken PowerPoint and Posters
There is an eleven page PowerPoint that introduces students to chickens. Real pictures are included. If you do not have access to a computer, there are identical posters that you can use instead.

Life Cycle of a Chicken
There are five posters that show the life cycle of a chicken. Students can complete a chicken life cycle worksheet after the lesson.

Oviparous and Nonoviparous Sort and Worksheet
Since chickens are oviparous, I thought it would be fun to include a sort that talked animals that come from eggs and animals that do not. There are 24 real pictures of animals for students to sort according to whether or not they are oviparous. Upon completion of the lesson, students can complete a worksheet.

Parts of a Chicken
There is a poster that shows the different parts of a chicken. Upon completion of the lesson, students will complete a worksheet that will require them to label the different parts of a chicken.

Chicken Fact Book
This is perfect for younger students that are not quite ready for a research project. This craftivity has students apply everything that they have learned during the week. They will write five facts about chickens and illustrate each fact. For students that are unable to write just yet, the five chicken facts are already written and students will simply illustrate each fact.

Chicken Research Project Craftivity
If you would like your students to complete a chicken research project, this craftivity is for you! Students will research a chicken’s appearance, habitat, behaviors, diet, predators, and adaptations. There is also a source page so students can list where they found the information.
