We love letters! What’s not to love? They’re all around us, so learning about them is exciting for our little learners.
One of the building blocks of literacy is the alphabet so we enjoy finding new and interesting ways for students to learn and review their letters.
We start learning our ABCs with these fun Alphabet Worksheets. And I like to turn our Editable Dinosaur Pick and Color into a letter game.
As we become more confident with the alphabet we play this Swat the Bug Activity because the giggles as they find the letters is contagious!
And we wouldn’t want it any other way!
Because playing literacy games is a great way to get kids learning without realizing they’re learning.
Throughout the year we read our stacks of Alphabet Books and find exciting ways to integrate them into our curriculum.
To complete our weekly letter craft activity I’ve created this Animal Alphabet Z is for Zebra Craft so our preschool and kindergarten students can learn the letter Z in an enjoyable way.
If you’d like to implement this weekly letter and craftivity into your curriculum, be sure to have a look at our Animal Alphabet Letter of the Week Series. Each craft offers a chance for your kids to practice coloring, cutting, tracing, and gluing to make a fun animal that begins with the featured letter.

Getting the Letter Z Craft Ready
You will be able to differentiate this activity for your students since it comes with two variations of the printable. You can choose how students complete the writing portion of the craftivity. For little learners needing extra help, you can have them use the tracing version of the craft that will have the dotted letters to trace “Zz is for Zebra.” For students able to write independently they can use the non-tracing version to write their sentence.
Be sure to print out enough letters for each student, along with extras in case students need a do-over.
Doing the Letter Z Craft
To get started, have your students color their Z worksheet. They can draw wide stripes with a black crayon and then color them alternating from the black colored stripes to blank white stripes.
It may be fun as you are wrapping up this weekly series of letters to read some different alphabet books to your class. Z is for Moose is a hilarious book that will go perfectly with our animal alphabet craftivity.
After coloring the Z, students can trace the text below their letters or write the sentence independently.

After your emerging readers have finished coloring and writing the corresponding sentence, pass out the craft sheets. Students will color the pieces and then cut them out. To simplify things for younger learners or students that don’t have scissor skills yet you may want to cut out the zebra pieces ahead of time.

Once their pieces are colored and cut, students can then glue the mouth, mane, eyes, and ears on to the Z to make the Zebra. There is a picture on the craft sheet to use as a guide.

When students are finished gluing, they will have an adorable Letter Z is for Zebra!
You can hang these on an alphabet wall or bind into an Animal Alphabet Book now that you are at the end of the series! I love displaying the student’s classwork like this.
You can find the entire animal alphabet crafts in a single download!
