We’re back for another Animal Alphabet Letter of the Week Activity! Last week we completed G is for Goat and we are moving on this week to another farm animal- H is for horse! (you can check out all our previous letter of the week crafts here). Let’s get started!

Animal Alphabet Letter of the Week Activity! Last week we completed G is for Goat and we are moving on this week to another farm animal- H is for horse!

Quick background on this series of you are just joining us: This letter of the week series was designed specifically for preschool and kindergarten students. The crafts include fine motor work (coloring, tracing, cutting and of course gluing) and encourage creativity!

You can see my kiddos flex their creativity in their interesting choice of colors of some of their other animal crafts (I am quite fond of their C is for Cheshire Cat craft 😉 ) How do your kids like to color? Do they prefer realistic colors or out-of-this-world color combos?

Today’s Animal alphabet Craft features a horse, and I had no doubt my kids would be creating a horse of a different color before we even got started!

Supplies for the Animal Alphabet H is for Horse Craft

  • Crayons
  • Glue

Getting the Letter H Craft Ready

Print enough letter H and craft sheets for every student. You may want to print extras in case students decide they need a do-over for any reason. (Note: There are two types of alphabet pages included in the pack. One includes a place to trace the “H is for Horse” sentence and one does not. Choose the sheet that is most appropriate for your children’s abilities.)

Doing the Letter H Craft

Ask each child color their alphabet letters. You may also want to include reading a farm book that includes horses into your lesson plans this week. Some of the art from the books may become inspiration for today’s project!

After coloring, children can trace the text below their letters (keep in mind this is optional. There is a page that does not include the tracing text for your convenience).

After the children have finished coloring, pass out the craft sheets. These include an eye, two ears, a mane, and a tail.

Next, children can cut each craft using child-safe scissors. Each letter of the week craft in this series has been thoughtfully planned to include repetition and encourage mastery of scissor skills.

After cutting children can use the example on their craft sheets to glue each piece in place on the letters.

The finished product can be displayed on an alphabet wall or saved to bind into an Animal Alphabet Book at the end of the series!

Next week we will be sharing an alphabet craft to go along with the letter I…any guesses as to which animal will be featured in that craft? Stay tuned to find out!
