I always love being able to incorporate themes into my students’ learning. This Penguin Syllable Sort Printable does just this. This freebie will be the perfect addition to your literacy centers for your little learners.

A penguin sort for practicing counting syllables in words

Penguin Syllable Sort Printable

Penguin Syllable Sort Printable contains six pages total. There are four penguin syllable header cards covering one to four syllable words and then six penguin picture cards for each number. It is recommended that you print on cardstock and laminate so that this center can be used for years to come.

Penguin Syllable Sort is the perfect addition to your literacy centers to have your students reviewing syllables. This freebie is great for kindergarten and first grade students.

Doing Penguin Syllable Sort Printable

Students will start the center by setting out the syllable header cards. If you think that your students can handle all four, provide them with all four. If you want them to start with just one and two syllables, provide them with only those two. As your students master this, you can slowly add in more.

Penguin Syllable Sort is the perfect addition to your literacy centers to have your students reviewing syllables. This freebie is great for kindergarten and first grade students.

Once those are laid out, students can start choosing picture cards to sort according to how many syllables each one has. A picture card with a donut was chosen so it was placed under the number 2 penguin. Students will repeat this step until all picture cards have been placed. Each number will have six pictures cards total.

Penguin Syllable Sort is the perfect addition to your literacy centers to have your students reviewing syllables. This freebie is great for kindergarten and first grade students.

If you are limited on space, this penguin syllable sort printable will fit perfectly in a large pocket chart. Instead of placing the pieces on the table or floor, they can complete the activity on the pocket chart. This is also a fun way to change it up after a couple of weeks.

I love getting your freebies but is there any other way of getting them besides subscribing to your newsletter every time I want to download a freebie? I am already a subscriber to a dad of glue and love everything you post there.

Hi there Lauren! Thank you so much for reaching out. The download will be emailed to you; it may go to your spam, “other” or promotions folder. If you are using a school email sometimes, they don’t allow our emails to go through so you may want to use a personal email. If you still aren’t able to get the download, please email me here > freebies @ adabofgluewilldo (dot) com and I’ll send it right over! Have a great week.

I had a question about the four syllable pictures. The soldier and the fireman? What are the labels for those pictures?
