Teaching our students about science and letting them get involved with hands-on science experiments is one of my favorite things.

The excitement in their eyes is what teaching is all about.

Kids love learning about science because there are hands-on activities they can do and see in school, and at home. It is a very real and tangible unit they will study, use, and carry on throughout their life.

We read our stacks and stacks of STEM Books and bring STEM into our classroom with our Apple Boats STEM Activity.

To make things exciting and to show our little learners, that science is in everything around us, we study all about Matter. And to get our little scientists exploring science regularly, we have themed science experiments that we do monthly.

Studying and finding the different ways we can observe and experiment with our world with interesting games and activities gets students learning without even realizing they’re learning.

I’ve created this I Am a Scientist Unit so our future scientists can learn and research about what a scientist does and the tools they use.

After completing this science unit, your class will be inspired as our youngest learners feel like they too are scientists.

Engage your students in exciting science lessons with this My Science Interactive Notebook.

Your class will be engaged as they learn how they can be little Scientists. As we begin this unit of study I like to start by reading S is for Scientists by Larry Verstraete.

This I Am a Scientist Unit is perfect for science in Preschool, Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade classrooms and packed full of intriguing science activities.

Learning about scientists is great for your unit studies, kids craft activities, and homeschoolers!

I Am a Scientist Ready

  • paper or cardstock
  • laminating pouches
  • laminator
  • double-sided tape, adhesive magnetic strips, or stapler
  • vis-a-vie markers

After you purchase this activity and download it, I recommend that you print these out on cardstock and laminate them so it can be used year after year.

This science resource is full of an assortment of activities and centers. Therefore, preparation will vary. Below is a brief rundown of each component in the I Am a Scientist Unit.

Science Lesson Plans for the Week

Throughout the one to two weeks, students will engage in hands-on science activities. They will learn about scientists and what it is they do, science tools, and the importance of science safety.

Students will complete an anchor chart, worksheets, and a craftivity.

I've created this I Am a Scientist Unit so our future scientists can learn and research about what a scientist does and the tools they use.

I Am a Scientist PowerPoint and Posters

There is a twenty-page PowerPoint that introduces students to what a scientist is and what they do. Our kids find it so interesting to learn about the history of scientists while we read 100 Scientists Who Made History by Andrea Mills.

Scientist Anchor Chart

Together with their classmates, students will make a visual display of a scientist.

I've created this I Am a Scientist Unit so our future scientists can learn and research about what a scientist does and the tools they use.

I Am a Scientist Emergent Reader

This emergent reader is a great way for students to see the many different things a scientist does and what their responsibilities are. They’ll be able to color and read while feeling like they are scientists too. This emergent reader printable comes in 2 different versions so you can choose your printing preferences.

I've created this I Am a Scientist Unit so our future scientists can learn and research about what a scientist does and the tools they use.

I Am a Scientist Craftivity

Students will show what they know using their creative side as they write about what a scientist is and does in the world around us. As our little learners create this craft we will often read Look I’m a Scientist by DK.

I've created this I Am a Scientist Unit so our future scientists can learn and research about what a scientist does and the tools they use.

Science Tools PowerPoint and Posters

There is a fourteen-page PowerPoint that introduces students to the many different tools used in science using real photographs. One of our favorite books for this section is I Use Science Tools by Kelli Hicks.

Science Tools Worksheet

So with this worksheet, students will be able to distinguish between various scientific tools while matching their pictures to their names.

Science Safety PowerPoint and Posters

There is a twenty-four page PowerPoint that introduces students to the different rules of science safety using scientific photographs. As we learn about the importance of science safety we love reading Science Safety Rules by Kelli Hicks.

Science Safety Worksheet

With this worksheet, students will be shown different safety procedures and match them to the correct descriptions.
