I absolutely love bats! Most young kids are half terrified/half delighted by bats, which makes them a fun theme for a craft. You can use this clothespin bat craft when studying the letter B, when completing a Halloween craft, or any time you want to learn more about bats!

Most students are half terrified/half delighted by bats, which makes them a fun theme for a craft. You can use this clothespin bat craft when studying the letter B, when completing a Halloween craft, or any time you want to learn more about bats!

With the included printable template, this bat craft is simple enough to use in classrooms with preschoolers, kindergarten kids, and in daycare! If you want the craft to take more time, you can have kids make their own bats, but the template makes it super easy!

Getting the Clothespin Bat Craft Ready

In advance, you’ll want to make sure you print a bat outline for every student. Each template has four bats on it, so print as many copies as you need and rough-cut them apart.

Doing the Clothespin Bat Craft

Give a bat to each student and ask them to cut around the edges of the bat to cut it out completely. This is a great way to practice fine motor skills and cutting practice with little ones.

Have your students color their clothespins black.

Glue the bat to the center of the clothespin.

The kids can “fly” their bats and let them flap their wings by holding the clothespin and watching the wings flap.

The clothespin also means this craft can be used as a decoration.

Clip the clothespin to any paper or bulletin board or student display for an adorable and simple Halloween decoration! Most students are half terrified/half delighted by bats, which makes them a fun theme for a craft. If you want to make this a little more complicated, you can draw the outline of the bat onto black paper (or let the kids do it) and then cut it out. That way, the bat will have black wings on both side of its body rather than just the top.
