Little kids love unicorns – they are magical and exciting! These Unicorn Alphabet Puzzles will tap into that fascination and have your students having so much fun that they will not even know that they are learning. That is the best, right?!

Unicorn puzzles to identify beginning sounds

Unicorn Alphabet Puzzles comes with 26 different puzzles, covering all letters of the alphabet. Each puzzle pieces has three pieces: one that has the unicorn with the letter and then the other two have pictures that start with the letter.

Do you have any unicorn lovers in your classroom or house? These unicorn Alphabet Puzzles will be the perfect way for your preschool and kindergarten students to practice learning the alphabet. This free printable is great for introducing or reviewing the letters.

Getting Unicorn Alphabet Puzzles Ready

This free printable is very easy to prep. I recommend printing on cardstock and laminating so it can easily be used year after year. I typically use a paper cutter to cut out the entire puzzle and then go back and cut out the individual pieces with scissors.

Doing Unicorn Alphabet Puzzles

Students will start the activity by laying all of the pieces on the floor or table. They will then choose a unicorn puzzle piece. When my daughter did this, she chose a unicorn puzzle piece with the letter “Tt”.

Next your students will then search through the puzzle pieces looking for the two pieces that have a picture that starts with a “Tt”.

Once the puzzle has two pictures, it is complete and they can continue until all puzzle pieces are done or center time is up.

We found it easiest to move the completed puzzle pieces to the side to leave plenty of room to complete puzzles.

Another way this center can be completed is by laying out all of the unicorn puzzle pieces on the floor and then placing the picture puzzle pieces with the right letter as you find them.

My daughter would have been overwhelmed by having all of the puzzle pieces out at once so I only gave her a handful of the puzzles to do. If your students would benefit from this, start small and as they master the ones they have, you can slowly add in more.

Love, love, love these unicorn alphabet puzzles and I can’t wait to use them during centers next school year in my pre-k classroom. The large size and super cute graphics are going to appeal to my kiddos and I am sure it will be something that will keep them engaged. I teach in a very small non-profit preschool so have very little money to buy new resources, so thank you for all of your many super high quality freebies. Thank you so very, very much!!!
