Initial Sound Penguin Puzzles

I love penguins. They are so cute and funny. My students always loved learning about them each and every year. In order to capitalize on my students’ love for penguins, I always had cute penguin literacy and math centers for them during the winter months. These Initial Sound Penguin Puzzles will have your students so excited about doing that they will not even realize they are learning.

Initial Sound Penguin Puzzles

Initial Sound Penguin Puzzles contains 26 puzzles total, one for each letter of the alphabet. Each puzzle has two pieces, one with the letter of the alphabet, and the other with a picture that starts with the corresponding letter. It is recommended that you print on cardstock and laminate so that this center can be used for years to come.

Doing Intial Sound Penguin Puzzles

Students will start the center by picking one puzzle piece, either the picture puzzle piece or the letter puzzle piece. My daughter chose a letter puzzle piece first.

She then looked through all of the puzzle pieces that were left trying to find the picture that started with the letter Ss .

As she found each alphabet puzzle, she set it aside and continue the above steps until all of the pieces were completed.

If you think that your students will struggle with all 26 letter puzzles, then introduce the center with only a handful of the puzzle pieces. As they master those, you can add in a few more. You can continue this until all puzzle pieces are included.
