And just as important, if our classroom is not very diverse, we want to expose our students to and teach them about other cultures, heritages, and races they may not know about from their every day lives.

We can bring awareness about these other cultures by introducing our students to dolls and toys that don’t look like them which will make being around people who look different from themselves feels safe and “normal.”

This display will make each of your students take great pride in what they complete.  They will absolutely love showing off all their hard work and effort. My students loved our display for student work and honestly, kids from other classrooms enjoyed it too.

It is fairly easy to set up and can easily be reused year after year. It is also something that you can easily prep during the summer and have everything ready to go. What is not to love?!

Materials Needed to Display Student Work

• foam sheets or file folders
• clothes clip art
• hands template (see below)
• paper or card stock
• clothes pins
• laminator
• laminating pouches

Preparing to Display Student Work

1. First you will need to print and cut the hands template (shown below).
2. Next, you will trace the hands either onto file folders or foam sheets. You will need to do this for each kid in your class.

3. Next you will glue a clothespin to the end of each hand. I found it best to glue the clothespin on the side that has markings from where you traced.

4. Next print off clothes clip art or an image from the Internet. For this post I used Whimsy Clips, but there are many options to pick from. Print out the clothes and laminate for extra durability.

When teaching, my classroom had a zoo theme.  I found a cute zookeeper outfit online using only the shirt and shorts. Find what works with your taste and classroom theme.

(If you use the clipart above or something similar here are the exact dimensions that I used: Make the pink shirt dimensions 6.6 height by 8.18 width. Make the green shirt dimensions 8.54 height by 8.22 width. Make all shorts 4.93 height by 6.2 width.)

After you get the clothes printed, attach the shirt and shorts together and laminate for extra durability.

5. Glue hands to the clothes. You will want the clothespin to be hidden behind the hands once the display is all set up so glue accordingly.

Before the school year began, I had the kids set up in the hallway (like picture above). When spacing the first few, I made sure that I had enough room to clip a large piece of construction paper sideways. Obviously, you may not have that much space. Just do what works for you and your classroom.

I found the best way to attach the kids to the wall was using Removable Mounting Squares. They can withstand the weight and last throughout the school year. They can also easily be removed without making a mess and/or tearing up paint from the surface it was attached to.

I took head shots of all my kids the first week of school.  You will want them to be quite large so adjust using PowerPoint or a similar program. I usually make the faces huge so that they fill the entire 8.5 x 11 inch page. I think it makes it look funny and the kids LOVE it. All that is left is to print them out the faces and laminate.

Once the heads are cut out, attach them to the bodies and your student display is ready to go!

As your students compete work, you can have them hang it up for all of their friends to see.

Even though there it takes a little bit of time to get this display ready to go, I promise that it is definitely worth it!

When you are done with the displays you can store the materials for next year or give the displays to your kids at the end of the school year.

Materials Needed for the 3 Ingredient Soft Playdough Recipe:

• Food Dye
• Cornstarch
• Shaving Cream

Getting the Soft Playdough Recipe Ready:

In a large mixing bowl combine 1 cup of shaving cream with 2 cups of cornstarch.

Stir shaving cream and cornstarch to combine.

Use your hands to knead the rest of the cornstarch into the dough.

If the dough feels too sticky, add more cornstarch. If the dough feels like it’s crumbling, add more shaving cream.
Separate the dough into 6 equal amounts.

In a large mixing bowl, use a fork to mix in food dye to each ball of dough.

Once the color is mostly mixed in, add a few pinches of cornstarch and knead the dough until the color is fully combined.

Your dough is ready to be played with! Store in an airtight container.
