After Thanksgiving, staff and students are 100% aware that all we have to do is make it a few more weeks until a nice long holiday break. But somehow, those “few more weeks” are the busiest, longest weeks ever. They’re filled with assessments, conferences, planning, prepping for January…the list goes on and on. 

So, since we already know December will be rough, we do our best to plan easy and fun activities that will keep our students learning and engaged. I love using match-up activities in my centers or as morning work like this editable sight word activity and this Christmas tree number match-up. We keep the little ones busy with exciting wintertime science experiments like these salt crystal ornaments and hot chocolate experiment. As we enjoy our hot chocolate, we read our collection of Christmas books.

Using the December Kindergarten Math and Literacy Centers

Once you purchase and download your centers, look through all 40 files to see what you now own! Make a list of things to print, cut, copy, laminate, etc. Trust me, the more you prep to make them last, the easier the prep will be for years to come. If you print on cardstock and laminate the center materials this year, next year you’ll have a lot less to do.

When you introduce the centers to your students, either all at once, in chunks, or one week at a time, make sure to set explicit expectations for how you want the centers to be used. Model each activity and help your students with them the first few times. This will enable your students to be a lot more independent as the month goes on!

There is no one “right” way to use these centers. You can use them in your stations, as whole group activities, as sub plans, etc. Make them work for you. Once you take a look at all of the centers, you may even find that some of them fit perfectly with your kindergarten winter thematic units, so you may split them up to be done at different times during the season.

We start off the month by recovering from Halloween. Then, we begin to discuss and learn about Veteran’s Day. We talk about and explore the importance of the day with this Veteran’s Day Emergent Reader.

After Veteran’s Day, we start to prepare for Thanksgiving! I just love this holiday. There is something about taking the time to think about and discuss everything that we’re grateful for that just fills my heart with so much joy. Our littlest learners share their gratitude with this I Am Thankful turkey activity and our thankful turkey craft. Books from this collection of Thanksgiving stories are a great way to start the conversation!

My favorite November learning themes include turkeys, hayrides, pumpkins, scarecrows, and football! But I especially like focusing on turkeys. In science, we learn all about wild turkeys in this animal study. We enjoy our turkey pre-k centers with activities like this turkey name building. Using the November Pre-k Math and Literacy Centers

I always suggest starting off by looking through and familiarizing yourself with everything and taking notes of what you plan to use right away. Once you make a list and start printing, separate the activities into piles of what needs to be copied, laminated, cut, etc. Remember that the more activities you laminate to reuse, the less prep the centers will be next year!

Model how to use each type of center for your students, and set clear and concise expectations for using them. This will help your littlest learners be more independent while they are working and playing.

I love to engage my students in exciting activities from this collection of Halloween STEM ideas. With all the excitement that comes with October, STEM activities are perfect for giving the students a chance to work together to complete festive challenges. We dive more into science with our apples and pumpkins science units.

To celebrate everyone’s favorite October holiday, we play several rounds of this Halloween bingo game. It gives my students a chance to practice their listening skills, and it is great to play when you have parent volunteers come in! To keep with the Halloween theme, we engage in some gross and spooky fun with this blood cell model science activity and read as many ghost and goblin Halloween books as we can.

Like every other month, we work on our literacy skills with this review journal. I also love to use the October math journal as a way to transition to the next subject of the day. Using the October Math and Literacy Centers

Our kindergarteners love rhyming with bats and working on numbers, letters, and their fine motor skills with these bats. Using the October Math and Literacy Centers for Kindergarten

Once you purchase and download the October math and literacy centers for kindergarten, you’ll be ready to get started! The center bundle is separated into neat and tidy digital folders for each subject and center category. You can look through each center and either print or make a list of what needs to be printed, copied, laminated, and cut. Since we spend so much of August practicing routines and learning procedures, we’re ready to kick things up a notch by September. One of my favorite things about September is that I get to teach while using adorable fall themes. In science, we explore apples with this science unit and become little scientists with these September science experiments.

I put apple activities like this editable sight word game and this number match in my centers or morning work bins. Students enjoy building their names in an apple bucket and playing this fun apple pick and color activity. And we work on fine motor and scissor-cutting skills with this apple craft.

Now that the kids are back into a routine at school, we really want to encourage learning as much as possible. So I’m always looking for creative ideas for math and literacy centers that will find my students having fun while learning. This is why we created our September Kindergarten Math and Literacy Centers. Using the September Learning Centers for Kindergarten

Once you purchase and download your centers, it’s time to get started! You’ll be able to look through all five categories for each subject of centers. From there, you can make a list of which centers you need to print, copy, laminate, cut, etc. If you don’t think you’ll use all of the centers, you can always print a copy and put them in your sub folder! 

One thing that makes these centers great is that there is no one “right” way to use them! Maybe you do math centers and literacy centers at different times of the day, and you can use all of the centers during those times. Maybe you have one center time that includes both subjects, so you might pick and choose which centers to use. Or maybe you’ll put some of the activities in centers and use some of them, like the poetry and write the room activities, as whole class instruction and activities. Make these kindergarten resources work for you and your classroom!

Whichever way you choose to use them, make sure to explicitly teach and model the activities for your students so that they can learn to be independent with them. Set yourself up for success by laminating the reusable pieces, so that you will have them ready for the following September as well!

Kindergarten Math Activities for September

Write the Room

Write the room activities can be used as a center or as a whole class activity! These activities are my students’ favorites because they love getting to use clipboards and roaming around the room. The four math write the room centers for September will help your students practice comparing numbers, putting numbers in order, completing patterns, and sorting and graphing. 

Write & Wipe Activities

The four September write and wipe math centers cover skills including 2D shapes, counting, writing numbers, measuring, and working with positional words. Another perk of September is that we get to welcome the season of fall! We love celebrating the start of fall with some of these read-alouds and this exciting fall bingo game. We dive into language arts with our apple writing center and apple blends match-up. Maintaining the apple theme, we work on addition and subtraction with this editable activity. The month wouldn’t be complete without some seasonal science added in. My students have a blast with these four September science experiments and this apple boats STEM experiment.

I start and end the day with daily literacy and math journals to ensure my students keep their math and literacy skills sharp. I pull out the September Daily Literacy Journal each morning for a quick morning work/check-in activity. Using the September 1st Grade Math and Literacy Centers

After you purchase and download the September math and literacy bundle of centers, you’ll now own 40 centers to use with your students. Because 40 centers can be a lot, we’re here to offer some guidance on how to best use, and how to set up, the 1st grade math and literacy centers in September. 

First, you’ll want to look through each center that’s included. If you’re not by your printer, make a list of the centers that you want to print. Look through the different variations of each center and decide if you’ll use the color or black and white version, and which recording sheet, or level of activity, you’ll use with your students for the centers that have multiple options for differentiation.

Once printed, organize your centers in piles or folders of what needs to be copied, laminated, cut, etc. We highly recommend prepping these centers the month ahead of time so that you’re not rushed. When you look through the centers, you’ll see lots of adorable fall themes that are perfect for September. But some of the centers could definitely fit in other months as well, so feel free to store something away for sub plans, etc., if you don’t plan to use all 40 centers during this month. 

There are two more pieces of advice that I can offer. Number one: laminate as much as possible to make them last so you can reuse them next year. Number two: explicitly and clearly model the centers for your students before letting them go. Trust me, they will do great once they understand the directions and your expectations. 

Last but not least, don’t forget to be excited about these centers for your students and to have fun with them! The best part about integrating math and literacy centers into 1st grade September curriculum is that it makes every day a little more fresh and exciting.

1st Grade September Math Activities 

Dice Games

You and your students will enjoy the four first grade math games that are included in the dice games category. As soon as my new crop of first graders comes through the door, the fun (and the learning) begins! We ease our way back into the classroom and work on fostering kindness and making great choices. We dive into reading some of my favorite back-to-school read-alouds from this list. Then I introduce enticing and engaging activities, such as this back-to-school bingo game and these first grade back-to-school digital games.

When the new school year begins, I immediately help my students turn their “school brains” back on after a long summer break. I use review materials like these August math journals and August literacy journals as morning work and daily review practice to get the kids back into the swing of things. 

As soon as my students are comfortable in the classroom, I introduce my small group and centers routines. I find it works well to pull my students into small groups as soon as possible. It helps us all get to know each other better and to build comfort levels and confidence in the classroom. Using the First Grade Math and Literacy Centers for August

After you purchase and download the first grade centers for August, you’ll immediately be able to look at all 40 centers and make a plan for using them. I always recommend making note of which ones you want to use and when you’ll use them. Then you can figure out which resources you need to print, copy, cut, laminate, etc. For example, there are four literacy write the room activities and four math write the room activities. I would grab my planner and map out where I would fit each one in over the month and jot it down. 

My greatest prep suggestion? It might seem like a lot of work, but print as much as possible on cardstock and or laminate after printing so that you can save and reuse the centers for many Augusts to come! You will be super grateful next year when you already have so much prepped! 

When it comes to introducing the centers to my students, I always make sure to set clear and concise expectations for how to use each type of center. 

With August being the first month of the school year, I spend extra time teaching the procedures of each center, modeling the activities, and explaining my expectations. I even give the kids a few “practice rounds” where I am not working with anyone while they’re in their centers, just observing and helping with reminders and instructions. Putting in the effort now will help your centers run smoothly for the rest of the school year. Because, of course, I’m using the full year of first grade centers, not just August!

First Grade August Math Centers

Dice and Partner Games

Kids LOVE to play games. And I love when I can provide them with games that are not only fun but also help them learn and review their skills. With four August dice games and four August partner games, your first graders will have a blast reviewing 3D shapes, addition, graphing, place value, comparing numbers, and 1 more/1 less. These August math games for first grade are easy to prep, and your students will thoroughly enjoy getting to play while learning with these hands-on math centers for August. Math Puzzles and Match-Ups

This is one of those centers where setting expectations beforehand is crucial so that you don’t end up with a bunch of dry-erase scribbling on all of the write and wipe activities. I try to give my students the opportunity to “play” or “free draw” on whiteboards at other times during the week so that the temptation is lessened during center time. The August first grade write and wipe activities will help your students practice graphing, 1 more/1 less, subtraction, and number order. I love the excitement of setting up my classroom and meeting my new students. Before my students arrive for their first day, I pass out, or send, this back-to-school confetti to ease those first day jitters. Once they come to the classroom, I do fun activities with them like this back-to-school bingo. We read The Kissing Hand and make these adorable Chester the Raccoon envelope puppets. To ensure we start the year off on the right foot, we play this fun school supplies sort game. And I throw some math with our back-to-school First to 20 activity and review numbers with these School Supply Clip Cards. Our students are having so much fun, they’re learning without realizing they’re learning!

I always start the most important routines right away so that the kids have plenty of time to get used to them. I introduce daily journal practice with these August math and August literacy journals. Using the August Kindergarten Math & Literacy Centers

With 40 math and literacy centers to use in August with your kindergarteners, it is totally understandable to feel overwhelmed. We have some suggestions to make things easier for you! The first year of prep takes the longest, but prep smart, and next August you’ll have almost everything already ready to go! 

• Prep the centers ahead of the first day of school! After purchasing and downloading the centers, decide which ones you’re going to use as centers, which ones you might save for whole group instruction, etc. 
• Once you check out the available centers, plan out your prep work. Make a list of what needs to be printed, copied, laminated, cut, etc. We always suggest printing things like the write and wipe activities, the puzzles and match-ups, the writing cards, and the write the room cards onto cardstock and/or laminating so that you can reuse them each August. 
• Remember that there is no right way to use these! Teachers use these August kindergarten activities in several different ways. Some teachers use the puzzles and match-ups for morning work, some use the poetry materials as whole group lessons, and some only use the black & white copies to make them consumables. Make the centers work for you! 
• Most importantly, make sure to model the centers explicitly and set clear expectations for all of the different types of centers you will use.This is so important, especially in August, since you’ll be setting the expectation for the entire school year!

Dice Games

Dice games are an easy and fun way to help your students practice important math skills! Sometimes I even hand these out to the entire class as a review after our math lesson. Luckily we’ve been here before and know all of the best tips and tricks for making it work. Using the End-of-Year 1st Grade Math and Literacy Centers

The 1st Grade Math and Literacy Centers for June come with 40 centers to use with your students, which is a lot. We know that you’re super busy already and don’t have any time to waste, so we thought we’d offer our favorite tips and tricks for using these centers. 

• Once you purchase and download the centers, look at everything that comes inside the zip file, especially the directions. Make a list of centers that you’ll definitely be using and any other thoughts or notes that come to mind at first glance.
• Make a plan to prep the centers. Figure out what needs to be printed, copied, laminated, and cut. We highly suggest laminating as much as possible to make prep easier for the following year since a lot of materials can be reusable. 
• Once you know the centers that you’ll be using, make a plan to roll them out to your students. If you have our other months of centers, your students will already be familiar with the format. All you’ll have to do is show them the new centers and remind them of the directions! If this is your first month using our centers, make sure to explicitly model and teach each type of center so that when you give them to your students, they can work as independently as possible. 
• Remember that there is no right way to use these centers. You can use some of the activities as whole-class work or even in small groups. Make the centers work for you!
• Don’t be afraid to differentiate as needed! Make the puzzles self-checking, use the different recording sheets for the write the room activities, etc. As much as we try to make the centers as well-rounded as possible to meet the needs of first grade teachers around the world, we know that every class of students is different and you may need to modify for your students to thrive.
• Don’t forget to think ahead to next June! Print things that can be reused like the write and wipe activities, roll and cover game, writing cards, pocket charts and match ups, etc. on cardstock and laminate for future use.

First Grade June Math Centers

Dice Games

I love to use games with dice to engage my students because of how easy and fun they are. Rolling dice keeps their little hands busy and the materials are simple and easy to prep. The four June dice games include a “Build a Bug” activity, a “Color by Code” worksheet, a “Roll and Cover/Color” activity, and a “Roll and Graph” center. These first grade June math centers will help your students practice adding, subtracting, and identifying coins. 

Partner Games

My students are always begging me for activities that allow them to work with their classmates. Using the Pre-K June Centers with Your Students

Wondering where to start with your pre-k centers for June? Luckily, we’ve done this a time or two before, so we have lots of great tips for you!

Once you purchase and download your centers, take inventory of everything that you now own. Take a look at the different categories of centers and the types of centers that come in each category. Make a list of, or send to the printer right away, the centers that you definitely want to use soon. Once you print, organize your centers in piles of what needs to be copied, laminated, cut, etc. Try to prep this in May so that come June you’re ready to go. Dice Games for June

Dice games are easy to prep and can even be used as whole-class activities instead of in a center.
